We have been preparing a fun way to kick off summer and are so excited to share it with you!

The month of June is going to be “Smoothie Month” for ISIS Biodynamic and our flour children!  The weather is getting warmer and the blenders are coming out of hibernation.  Every Sunday of June will be “SMOOTHIE SUNDAY” and we will be posting a new and delicious Isis power smoothie recipe to all of our social media accounts and our recipe page.

Now…you might be thinking, Flour…in my smoothie? YES!

Because of how we slowly stone grind our wheat into flour, it retains the bran, germ and endosperm in their natural and original proportions..  These are the three parts that make up a wheat berry.  Not only does adding a little bit of Isis to your smoothie make it taste creamy and delicious but it has some MAJOR health benefits!  Let’s break it down:

  • B Vitamins:  Folate, vitamin B1 (thiamin) and vitamin B6.  B vitamins are important for the heart, help the body produce energy, break down protein, maintain the health of red blood cells, the nervous system & parts of the immune system and are important for cardiovascular health.
  • Phytosterols:  Wheat germ has phytosterols, which are actually steroid compounds similar to cholesterol. These phytosterols can lower unhealthy cholesterol and promote a healthy heart.
  • Healthy Fatty Acids:  Wheat germ is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids can help lower cholesterol, lower inflammation, and support a healthy nervous system, which can lower anxiety levels and improve mood.
  • Minerals:  Wheat germ also contains tons of minerals, including iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium, selenium and manganese. Our body needs minerals to repair itself and run the chemical reactions that keep us healthy.
  • Vitamin E:  A wonderful antioxidant that can protect cell membranes, brain cells, and cholesterol molecules from free radical damage.

  • Fiber and protein rich:  This keeps you full longer! This is also good for gastro intestinal health and staying regular.
  • Phytonutrients:  A substance found in certain plants that aren’t essential for keeping you alive, unlike the vitamins and minerals that plant foods contain. But when you eat or drink phytonutrients, they may help prevent disease and keep your body working properly.  One type of phytonutrients abundant in whole grains are lignans, these phytonutrients are converted by flora in our intestines to protect against hormone dependent cancers and heart disease.

The endosperm contains proteins and small amounts of vitamins and minerals.

So here’s to a happy and healthy smoothie month with ISIS Biodynamic!!  Keep in touch with us through, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest to get a new smoothie recipe every Sunday this June!

Happy blending
